Sam Houston National Forest

Description

Located in easy day-trip distance of Houston and weekend distance for many Texas residents, the Sam Houston National Forest offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities and encompasses three distinct recreation areas: Little Lake Creek Wilderness, Big Creek Scenic Area, and Winters Bayou Scenic Area. In addition, the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail, a portion of which has gained National Recreation Trail status, winds through the Sam Houston National Forest.
