Big Sandy Trail
Description
The only trail in the Big Thicket National Preserve open to horses and mountain bikes, the Big Sandy Trail is an 18-miles round trip, with more topography than other trails in the preserve. The Big Sandy Trail meanders through a diverse collections of ecosystems - upland pine forests, beech-magnolia-loblolly pine slopes, and a floodplain forest of basket oak, sweetgum, hornbeam, and holly.
Amenities: Horseback riding and mountain bikes; closed during hunting season
Directions: From Dallardsville, go west on FM 1276 about a half mile to Sunflower Road. Take Sunflower Road 2 miles or more to the trailhead.
